Roibo - Rooibos Tea
Sips from the Cedarburg

Mention Rooibos [Roy-Bos] and most Asians get a blank in their mind. Indeed, this humble but miraculous tea plant from the Cedarberg area of South Africa is little known in this part of the world. However in Europe, Japan, America, and of course, South Africa, people will look up with shinning eyes at the mention of rooibos tea. Be forewarned, that you will be indulged with enthusiastic stories of the taste and efficacy of this plant at the mere mention of the word!! It is not surprising that it is so as in those parts of the world Rooibos has been making a name for itself for well over a century, albeit in its mild, unobtrusive and self -effacing way

History, Origin and Antioxidant Properties

Rooibos Tea is grown only on the high, mountainous Cedarburg region of South Africa. It was the folk living in this area at the turn of the century that discovered that the fine, needle-like leaves of the bush ´Aspalatus Linearis´ made a refreshing hot drink. When brewed, this humble "mountain tea" brews up into a nice warm, amber tea loaded with poly-phenols - the anti-inflammatory, anti-mutagenic, anti-carcinogenic and anti-viral compound . Just by itself, rooibos tea contains more than 50 % poly-phenols found in green tea!

Quick to realize the marketing potential of this ´mountain-tea´, a Russian immigrant, Benjamin Ginsberg, whose family had been in the tea industry for generations, started packing and selling this tea in 1904. Today, rooibos tea has proven to be so popular that it is exported to 135 countries such as Germany, Israel, America, England and even Japan - a country renowned for its sacred art of tea and health consciousness.

¡¡
1. Caffeine Free & Low in Tannin

Unlike coffee and even green and black tea, Roibo Organic Tea (rooibos tea) does not contain caffeine and is low in tannin. Caffeine is a chemical substance which will over-stimulate the body when consumed regularly in large quantities, i.e. consuming it daily (sounds dreadfully familiar to our daily morning coffee ritual, doesn't it?). Adverse effects of caffeine on the body includes over-stimulation of the central nervous system, promotion of insomnia, tension, stress, indigestion, acidity, gout, rheumatism, high blood pressure and skin disorders.

Tannin has a harmful effect as it combines with the proteins and iron taken in with food - causing protein and iron deficiencies. Not only does Rooibos contain far less tannin(1%) than ordinary tea(12%) but also the little tannin that is in Rooibos belongs to a far less harmful category. This makes it suitable for Roibo Organic Tea to be drunk daily without fear of side effects.
2. Oxalic Acid Free

Roibo's Rooibos Organic Tea is also oxalic acid free which makes it suitable to be consumed by people suffering from kidney stones.
3. Mothers, Infants & Roibo Organic Rooibos Tea

Motherhood can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in one's life. Use Roibo's Rooibos Tea to deal with feeding problems, cramps, colic, allergies, and nappy rash.

Rooibos can also be used to alleviate eczema and even nappy rash in both adults and babies respectively. Just apply Roibo organic tea directly on the skin and let the inherent soothing effect of the tea's alpha-hydroxy (AHA) acid do the rest. As a health drink, Roibo Organic Rooibos Tea also relieves symptoms of allergies, hay fever as well as asthma in babies and toddlers.
6. Rich in Minerals

The motherhood advantages of this versatile drink are not limited to the baby alone. Roibo Organic Rooibos Tea can help mothers to replenish the iron that is depleted by both pregnancy and breastfeeding. Rooibos Tea can also help to increase absorption of iron as it is low in tannin (tannin decreases absorption of iron). Besides iron, Roibo Organic Rooibos Tea also contains calcium (building blocks of strong bones and teeth), zinc(essential for normal growth and healthy skin), potassium, copper, manganese (essential for a healthy nervous system) and fluoride (prevents tooth decay) - essential regulator of several metabolic functions for both babies and adults.
